Fiona Vaughn, the Manager of Financial Operations for the Department of Statistics & Data Science and for the Department of Mathematics, has received the 2025 Outstanding Staff Service Award from the College of Arts & Sciences. She was honored at a ceremony in Holmes Lounge on October 14th, 2025, along with the other 2025 faculty and staff awardees.

 

Fiona joined WashU and the Department of Mathematics & Statistics in 2016. When the Department of Statistics & Data Science (SDS) was established in 2023, she took the position as Manager of Financial Operations for the Department of Mathematics and for SDS. The Chair of SDS, Xuming He, summarized her contributions nicely, "Fiona played a crucial role in assembling an exceptional staff team during the early days of our department. Her extensive knowledge in business and financial operations, combined with her positive outlook and generosity in helping others, has made her an invaluable asset to our community. In particular, we have relied on her HR expertise in the hiring of faculty and postdoctoral researchers."  By her staff, Fiona is known for her endless patience and support, the care she shows to others, and for always getting the job done.
