Bo Li, the Stanley A. Sawyer Professor of Statistics and Data Science, has been appointed as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of ASA Discoveries, an open-access journal of the American Statistical Association. According to the new journal's website, ASA Discoveries “publishes high-quality papers encompassing advances in both theory and practice, promoting statistical methodologies, statistical computing, data visualization, data-driven insights, and AI innovations”.
The American Statistical Association, founded in Boston in 1839, is the world's largest community of statisticians, with nearly 20,000 individual members. The ASA has consistently supported excellence in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical science. It publishes or co-publishes 19 journals, with ASA Discoveries being its latest addition.
In addition to her new role, Li serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including Spatial Statistics and Environmetrics. She has also served as Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Statistical Association and the Journal of Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Statistics.
When asked why she took up the task of editing ASA Discoveries, Li shared her vision for the new journal: “ASA Discoveries is an open-access journal dedicated to ensuring that research findings are freely available to the global scientific community and the public, thereby maximizing impact and accessibility. The journal seeks to make significant contributions to the advancement of statistical and data-driven research while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Its mission is to promote innovation in both theory and practice, ensuring that statistics remains central to emerging fields of inquiry. A core principle of ASA Discoveries is a commitment to fairness, transparency, and accountability in research. By welcoming contributions from researchers and practitioners worldwide, the journal aspires to serve as a global hub for collaboration and exchange.”
